When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.
Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What’s more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa's power for his own.
Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by—and torn between—two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm's length . . . everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world. . . . and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

Plot: The plot was very good! It was quick and slow when it needed to be. Although this is what made this a 9 instead of a 10. It might have just been me but sometimes the plot got a little hard to follow. But eventuly it would pick back up and I'd be like ooohh okay. Other than that though GREAT plot!

Characters: Oh my goodness... I simply LOVED the characters they were so relatable. Especially Tessa. She was ers:a strong heroine but some times just a tad bit whiny but just when she kinda needed to be. Will was my favorite! I just loved his personality and his snarky remarks made laugh in this sometimes depressing book.

Creativity: Very creative. Some things where taken from other books like obviously vampires. But I like Cassandra's take on Vampires, Warlocks etc. I've loved the idea of Shadowhunters since I read the Mortal Instruments. Also liked how they refer the paranormal creatures as downworlders. Really creative book keep up the good work!

Writing: Don't have really have anything to say about the Writing but just simply AMAZING! I love Cassandra Clare's writing style! It's one of the things that make her books great! Enough said...

Ending: Loved the ending. Not too much of a cliff hanger that left you pulling your hair out but just some questions unanswered to keep the reader (me) reading the series.

Cover: Seriously how could you NOT love the cover. REALLY. Its simply gorgeous! The font is amazing, the model and models apperal.. amazing, and the background amazing!

All in all: GREAT way start to a series. Defintley check it out if you haven't already. Also great prequel to the epicness of the Mortal Instruments! Cassandra Clare you have done it again!

First Sentence: The demon exploded in a shower of ichor and guts.
