Impulse by Ellen Hopkins

Title: Impulse
Author: Ellen Hopkins
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Series: Impulse
Series Number: Book One
Page Amount: 666
Chapter Amount: N/A
Release Date: January 23, 2007
Overall Rating: 10 out of 10 stars

Three teens who have attempted suicide meet in a psychiatric hospital, battle their demons, and begin to heal.
The handsome son of wealthy parents, Connor has everything anyone could want-except his family's love and affection. Jailed for years after killing his mother's child-molesting boyfriend, Tony is confused about his sexuality. Manic-depressive Vanessa cuts herself. All three stories intertwine in a brutally honest story about pain and resilience.

Plot: The plot was amazing! I just confused at one part. But that was probably my own fault so there is really nothing wrong with the plot. There is really not much else to say.

Characters: I liked all of the characters! You really connect with them and they are no, not three dimensional, but four dimensional! You feel what they feel, see what they see, hear what they hear, etc. etc.

Creativity: Of coarse there are a lot of books about suicide but this one, with the verse, surpasses all of them! And I love it's three stories all with different problems. I love the creativity in this book!

Writing: The writing was probably my favorite my part about this book! It's in free verse form and it just made this book ten times better than it already was! It didn't feel like you were reading poetry but the writing just flowed and it's just amazing!

Ending: The ending was heartbreaking. I BALLED when this book ended. You do not expect what will happen! But that is the best part about it! The ending was just so powerful. I LOVE IT!

Cover: I love all the covers of all of Ellen Hopkins books! They are so simple but, yet, so powerful! It's usally just one word but, that word fits the book completely. This for example the words are crazy and there are what look blood splatters on it. (You'll get if you read the book.) So the cover is AMAZING!

All in all: I've always been a more fantasy, dystopian, etc. reader but this edgy realistic fiction is probably my new favorite book! Please check this out or any other one of Ellen Hopkins books. I promise you, you will not be disappointed! :D

First Sentence: Without warning, sometimes you're traveling a highway, the only road you've ever known, and wham!

Burned by P.C. Cast + Kristin Cast

Title: Burned
Author: P.C. Cast + Kristin Cast
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Series: House of Night
Series Number: Book Seven
Page Amount: 323
Chapter Amount: 31
Release Date: April 27, 2010
Overall Rating: 10 out of 10 stars

Warning:
This is the seventh book in the House of Night series. Although I do not intentionaly put spoilers, the following synopsis and review may contain spoilers to earlier books. Do not read unless you have read Marked, Betrayed, Chosen, Untamed, Hunted and Tempted by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast.

Things have turned black at the House of Night. Zoey Redbird’s soul has shattered. With everything she’s ever stood for falling apart, and a broken heart making her want to stay in the Otherworld forever, Zoey’s fading fast. It’s seeming more and more doubtful that she will be able pull herself back together in time to rejoin her friends and set the world to rights. As the only living person who can reach her, Stark must find a way to get to her.  But how?  He will have to die to do so, the Vampyre High Council stipulates.  And then Zoey will give up for sure. There are only 7 days left…

Enter  BFF Stevie Rae.  She wants to help Z but she has massive problems of her own.  The rogue Red Fledglings are acting up, and this time not even Stevie Rae can protect them from the consequences.  Her kinda boyfriend, Dallas, is sweet but too nosy for his own good.  The truth is, Stevie Rae’s hiding a secret that might be the key to getting Zoey home but also threatens to explode her whole world.

In the middle of the whole mess is Aphrodite: ex-Fledgling, trust-fund baby, total hag from Hell (and proud of it).  She’s always been blessed (if you could call it that) with visions that can reveal the future, but now it seems Nyx has decided to speak through her with the goddess’s own voice, whether she wants it or not.  Aphrodite’s loyalty can swing a lot of different ways, but right now Zoey’s fate hangs in the balance.

Three girls… playing with fire… if they don’t watch out, everyone will get Burned.

Plot: The plot was probably my favorite part about this book! I could, literally, not stop reading this book. Because sometimes, I admit it, I'd rather be doing something else than reading. There was no such thing in this book. It had lots of action, romance, etc.

Characters: In books 1-5 it's just Zoey's point of view but in Tempted and in this book it changes points of view like at every chapter! I love it! I like to see what other characters are thinking such as Stevie Rae, Aphrodite, Stark, Kalona, etc. Then it would change POVs when it was getting good. But it kept the suspense and I loved it!

Creativity: It just got better! The Casts' introduced the Otherword and it was everything I imagined it to be! And plus they still have there awesome vampyres and raven mockers. So the creativity is still great! :D

Writing: The writing is better and I really like better than before! There is really nothing more to say here...

Ending: The ending was so sweet! I can't wait to see what happens in Awakened! It was like one-half cliffhanger and one-half not. I loved it!

Cover: The cover is now my new favorite House of Night cover! It goes with the story and the "burned" part will make sense once you read the book. And it's just beautiful in general!

All in all: I loved Burned! It was a great sequel to Tempted and it surpased my expectations! I could not put this book down, I HAD to read anytime I could! So, really, it's a another amazing House of Night book and this book deserves a 10 stars and I love the House of Night series!

First Sentence: Kalona lifted his hands.

Tempted by P.C. Cast + Kristin Cast

Title: Tempted
Author: P.C. Cast + Kristin Cast
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Series: House of Night
Series Number: Book Six
Page Amount: 319
Chapter Amount: 40
Release Date: October 27, 2009
Overall Rating: 10 out of 9 stars

Warning:
This is the sixth book in the House of Night series. Although I do not intentionaly put spoilers, the following synopsis and review may contain spoilers to earlier books. Do not read unless you have read Marked, Betrayed, Chosen, Untamed, and Hunted by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast.

Dark secrets and unspoken suspicions come between Zoey and Stevie Rae, putting their friendship – and the House of Night – at risk.
After Zoey Redbird and her gang have banished Kalona and Neferet, the fallen High Priestess, from Tulsa, you’d think they’d catch a break.  But with Zoey and her sexy Warrior Stark both recovering from a brush with death, and the fledglings struggling to deal with the fallout from Neferet’s reign of terror, a break is just not in the forecast.  Zoey is haunted by her confusing yet elemental connection with A-ya, the ancient Cherokee maiden who was the only human able to tempt Kalona’s body and soul.  How will A-ya’s pull on her affect Zoey’s ability to resist the dangerously seductive immortal?
Meanwhile, Stevie Rae, with her super red vamp powers, always thought she could handle the stuff she’s been keeping from her BFF.  But the mysterious, threatening force lurking in the tunnels under the Tulsa Depot is spreading; Stevie Rae won’t confide where she’s been and what she’s doing, and Zoey is beginning to wonder just how much she can trust the person she always thought would have her back.

Plot: The plot was pretty good but the beginning was kind of slow and hard to get through. I sometimes had to force myself to read at the beginning! But at one point, I'd say about a quarter of the way through, it picked up then I couldn't put it down. So overall an OK plot.

Characters: I loved the characters! Zoey has improved! I can actully stand her now! So, yea, Zoey has improved on the boyfriend thing and I'm not going, UGH! Three Boyfriends!! Really!! She has become a stronger character and I've really loved all the over characters so I have nothing to rant on about the characters. :D

Creativity: More things are introduced and it just keeps on getting more, and more creative! The creativity is probably my favorite things about the House of Night books. So good creativity.

Writing: The writing has improved! WAY better than it was in Marked. And in all the other books. Still I prefer other authors' writing. But its still good and not annoying in anyway.

Ending: Wow.. The ending was soo shocking, I really don't what to say. You DO NOT expect what is going to happen. It basically went BAM! And let me just say I LOVE these type of endings! So, in my opinion, one of most favorite endings out of all the House of Night books. :O

Cover: The cover is just as beautiful as all the other House of Night books! So nothing wrong here.

All in all: I loved this book and a great addition to the already amazing House of Night series. Other than that plot it was an amazing book and I definitely reccomend it!

First Sentence: The night sky over Tulsa was alight with a magical crescent moon.

Hunted by P.C. Cast + Kristin Cast

Title: Hunted
Author: P.C. Cast + Kristin Cast
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Series: House of Night
Series Number: Book Five
Page Amount: 323
Chapter Amount: 33
Release Date: March 3, 2009
Overall Rating: 10 out of 10 stars

Warning:
This is the fifth book in the House of Night series. Although I do not intentionaly put spoilers, the following synopsis and review may contain spoilers to earlier books. Do not read unless you have read Marked, Betrayed, Chosen, and Untamed by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast.

What if the hottest guy in the world was hiding a nameless evil, and all he wanted was you?
At the start of this heart-pounding new installment of the bestselling House of Night series, Zoey’s friends have her back again and Stevie Rae and the red fledglings aren’t Neferet’s secrets any longer. But an unexpected danger has emerged. Neferet guards her powerful new consort, Kalona, and no one at the House of Night seems to understand the threat he poses. Kalona looks gorgeous, and he has the House of Night under his spell. A past life holds the key to breaking his rapidly spreading influence, but what if this past life shows Zoey secrets she doesn’t want to hear and truths she can’t face?
On the run and holed up in Tulsa’s Prohibition-era tunnels, Zoey and her gang must discover a way to deal with something that might bring them all down. Meanwhile, Zoey has a few other little problems. The red fledglings have cleaned up well – they’ve even managed to make the dark, creepy tunnels feel more like home – but are they really as friendly as they seem? On the boyfriend front, Zoey has a chance to make things right with super-hot ex-, Erik, but she can’t stop thinking about Stark, the archer who died in her arms after one unforgettable night, and she is driven to try to save him from Neferet’s sinister influence at all costs. Will anyone believe the power evil has to hide among us?

Plot: The plot was fast paced! There was a lot of twists and turns and I even found myself getting in trouble in class because I was reading this book when I wasn't supposed to. And that doesn't happen very often. So nothing wrong with the plot here. :D

Characters: The characters were great accept for one thing.. Zoey. I think Zoey is a good strong character but the boyfriend problems are starting to get annoying. I mean, really, who has three boys at once?! But the other characters were just fine and other than that one little thing, pretty good characters!

Creativity: Again, creativity is awesome! Love the vampyres in the House of Night series and some other pretty cool creatures. The plotline is pretty unique too. I also like how they kind of involve religion into it without effending anyone. AWESOME creativity!

Writing: Writing is okay. Not horrible is anyway, but as I said before, the Casts' writing isn't the best writing I've everseen but its still okay.

Ending: Was really cool. It wasn't a HUGE cliffhanger ending, yet, it wasn't a happily ever after ending either. It was kind of both and I thought that was creative and interesting. So I LOVED the ending

Cover: This might be one of my favorite House of Night covers. Thats because most of the covers are gorgeous, but they don't really go with the plotline. But this cover did. The feather has a HUGE part in the plotline and I liked that. So beautiful cover with a meaning. :D

All in all: amazing 5th book in the House of Night series and I can't wait to get to the next book. So, yea, theres really nothing else to say.

First Sentence: The dream began with the sound of wings.
